Hi,
For the entry “11 Feb 1847, Patrick Phelan of Gahney? & Ellen Fanning”, his place of residence is Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny, and they both later lived in Bawnmore, near Johnstown, CO. Kilkenny. They are my wife’s GG grandparents. But, we don’t know anything of Ellen’s family.
Thanks Warren I’ll add Galmoy to that record.
I’ve had another look around to see if I could unearth some family connections for Ellen Phelan nee Fanning.
But nothing more except that I noticed on Ellen’s marriage record that she and Patrick needed a dispensation as they were cousins.
I can’t even find either Ellen or Patrick’s civil death records which must be there somewhere.
I have just sent another email to Liz Kennedy who contacted me way back in 2012 but did not reply to my two emails.
Ellen was her gggrandmother and Liz herself was born in Bawnmore.
regards
Kathleen
I hadn’t noticed the dispensation; thanks. I’ve got their civil death records:

and
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/4338b04600140
Thanks for the death records, I missed them. I am not familiar with Co Kilkenny places at all.
Unfortunately Ellen’s father’s name is not on her marriage record which makes it almost impossible at this stage to trace her family.
As she was married in Moycarky we have to assume she lived in that area. But there were a number of Fanning families around Moycarkey.
I did email Liz Kennedy again. Haven’t heard back. Her email is shielkennedy so maybe her maiden name is Shiel, if that name rings a bell with your wife.
cheers Kathleen
One of my wife’s cousins did a big family chart for a reunion back in 2015, and I’ve just found her name on that. She may have even been there, but it was a huge crowd!
I also noticed on this chart that the details for Ellen Fanning say “(1812-1902) Ballycahill, Tipperary”, which I see is the parish for Lissaroon. And an Ancestry tree by another cousin does say Lissaroon, so I guess that’s the passed-down family knowledge. But as you say, without a father on the marriage record it hard to know for sure where she came from. I see the Ballycahill parish records only go back to 1835 at NLI.
Hi again Warren,
Sorry, I’m like a dog with a bone with this!
Is it possible for me to contact the cousin who did the big family chart? and do you know the name of the other cousin who has an Ancestry tree?
The name of the tree would be great. They may even have done a DNA test.
The only way this may get resolved is through DNA matches. Has your wife done an Ancestry DNA test by any chance?
The parish for Lissaroon is Drom & Inch but Ballycahill is right next to it.
My email is kathleenmfanningAThotmailDOTcom
